PT Aetra to Rejuvenate Old Pumps

As a clean water operator in the capital city, PT Aetra Air Jakarta is going to rejuvenate unworthy old pumps. Most of these pumps have operated since 1982, thus pump rejuvenation is necessary to optimize its services to the public.

Besides rejuvenation, the pumps used should also be more efficient without reducing the quality of services given to the public

“At this time we have about 10 pumps which mostly are over the age of 30 years. Besides rejuvenation, the pumps used should also be more efficient without reducing the quality of services given to the public. Water pressure and debit resulted must be greater, but the electrical energy used is lower,” stated PT Aetra Air Jakarta Operational Director, Lintong Hutasoit, Tuesday (12/23).

By using energy-efficient pump system, Hutasoit told that PT Aetra could save operational costs for about 10-20 percent. However, this system cannot be installed yet at all pumps owned by PT Aetra.

Pure Water Supply Disrupted by Pipe Leakage

“The capacity of the pump and public needs must be adjusted. So, not all pumps are replaced. Based on our calculation, probably there are only two pumps to be replaced with the energy-efficient pumps,” he uttered.

To realize this project, PT Aetra is cooperating with PT Teralindo Lestary, as the provider of the energy-saving pumps.

“Currently there is only one energy-efficient pump installed at Pulogadung Water Treatment Plant (WTP) belongs to PT Aetra,” he informed.

According to PT Teralindo Lestary Director, Poltak Sitinjak, energy-efficient pump uses vertical armstrong inline pump with a capacity of 1,300 liters per second and power of 0.088 ampere per liter per second. Meanwhile, the old pumps used all this time are horizontal split casing with a capacity of 1,000 liters per second and power of 0.14 ampere per liter per second.

“According to our calculation, by using this energy-efficient pump, we could save energy for more than 55 percent,” he explained.
